History[edit | edit source]
After the fall of many of the 21st & 22nd century powers, continuing protectionism, isolationism, and opposition to globalization in America shatters the English language. But with the openness, standardization, and cooperation of the 26 century upon them, the New North American Union (N.A.U.) has joined the ranks of most United Nations countries in their standard language: 24th century Academic English. But the everyday language of the new N.A.U. is the currently unwritten ʔɔɾ̃ekɯɾʌmɯʔ mʌʁɯkʌ (Shmı' Engwrite system: Oneikırõmı' Mõghıkõ).
Dialects[edit | edit source]

- Southern: northern /a/ merges with /ɛ/, northern /ʌ/ lowers to [ä] (but before a nasal it becomes /ɯ/), /u/ before a nasal becomes /o/, northern /ɯ/ tends toward [ɪ], northern monophthong /e/ breaks into [eɪ], word-final /v/, /z/, /ʒ/ devoice, and /ʁ/ can occur word-initially.
