The letter "s" is pronounced /s/ before a consonant or at the end of words. In any other cases, it is pronounced /z/. If this letter is before a "t" or a "p", it is pronounced /ʃ/

The order in sentences is most of the time SVO. The adjectives are before the noun.

In Gissou, nouns always have a capital letter.

To form the plural of nouns, you just need to add an -ë to the end of the word. If the noun ends with a vowel, instead of an -ë, you add -ns or mrore rarely -s or -n

Example :

Da Khats -> Khatsë (The Cat -> Cats)

Nouns use most of the time determiners :

Singular Plural
Definite da / des (with a vowel)
Indefinite se sese
Demonstrative Fo Fonn

Gissou has a special genitive construction. To form the genitive, you add -(ê)d to the the dependent which is located before the head. We also add n' to the end of the determiner.

Example :

Dan' Taintêd Difrêt (The aunt's glasses)

Adjectives are never declined. Adjectives can have a prefix form which can be used with the noun.

Example :

Da banbiqo (The blue pen) - biqo : pen and bank : blue

There are four relative pronouns in Gissai :

Singular Plural
1rst person I
2nd person Tail
3rd person Fnail Foll

Each verb has an infinitive form wich is never used in constructed sentences. The stem of a verb always ends with a vowel. To conjugate a verb, you just need to add the proper ending to the stem of the verb.

Note : Most of verbs are regular and have the same ending pattern

The present tense endings are :

Singular Plural
1rst person -s
2nd person -š or -s
3rd person -t -rta

Example : smêr (to be)

1st smês
2nd smês (or -š rarely)
3rd sing. smêt
3rd plur. smêrta

In Gissou, adverbs are used as prefixes of the verb. They are not declined.

Negation is formed by adding the prefix ki- to the verb.

Example :

I kigaês (I doesn't eat)
