General Information[]

Mynnari (from Mestian Mynnárī, natively Mynder) is a language spoken on one of the peninsulas and nearby islands on the Snowhelm. It has many dialects, with varying levels of mutual intelligibility. The dialects spoken on the Marksman Isles are considered fairly divergent: although they are mutually intelligible with one another, they generally have poor mutual intelligibility with the rest of the Mynnari dialect ecosystem, save for the dialects on the very coast and around the major rivers.

Their genealogical affiliation is fairly controversial: although they haven't been definitively proven linked to any one language family in the region, they have long since been suspected to be part of a general Spearlands family; many of its grammatical and lexical features straddle the line between Sprachbund and true linguistic affiliation.

Phonology[]

Insular Mynnari is very characteristically different from that of more peninsular varieties; the dialects of the Marksman Isles share some extremely characteristic isoglosses and phonetic features that are seldom found on the peninsula. It is fully tonal (as opposed to the peninsular pitch accent system) and has undergone some marked consonant and vowel shifts and contractions.
