Tieṅgiṅ mbaxn ([tʲeᶮɟŋ̩ ᵐbɐʔn̩], anglicized as Tenjeng) is a language spoken on the planet Aysling.

Classification and DialectsEdit

Tieṅgiṅ mbaxn is thought to be a language isolate.

The Tieṅgiṅ consonant inventory is characterized by series of plain, palatalized, and labialized stops and nasals, as well as prenasalized consonants.

Bilabial Alveolar Palatal Velar Glottal
Nasal m mʲ n nʲ nʷ ɲ ŋ ŋʷ
Prenasalized Stop ᵐb ᵐbʲ ⁿd ⁿdʲ ⁿdʷ ᶮɟ ᵑg ᵑgʷ
Stop p pʲ b bʲ t tʲ tʷ d dʲ dʷ c ɟ k kʷ g gʷ ʔ
Fricative s z ⁿz
Approximant j
Trill r
Flap or tap ⁿɾ
Lateral app. l

Tieṅgiṅ mbaxn has a vertical vowel system with three levels. The realization of each of the three vowel phonemes varies with the environment in which the vowel is found, becoming more fronted following palatalized stops and rounded following labialized stops.

High ɨ
High-mid ɘ
Low a

Tieṅgiṅ phonotactics are relatively simple, being restricted to a maximum syllable of CVC. However, given the relatively complex nature of some consonant phonemes, the realization of Tieṅgiṅ syllables can nonetheless appear rather complex, complicated by the possibility of syllabic nasals.
