Hi, I'm pá mamūnám ontā́ bán! I'm interested in languages and linguistics, amongst other subjects which aren't so relevant here.
My native language is English and I'm currently studying French, Russian and Czech at university. I do have knowledge of other languages, primarily Portuguese, but have also recently taken up casually studying Nāhuatl. In addition to these my "library" contains books on Latin, Polish, Icelandic, Old Church Slavonic, Swahili, Quechua, Ancient Greek, Spanish, Cantonese, Old English, Italian and Mandarin, however my knowledge of these is poor to say the least.
Currently my favourite foreign word is "tuku" which is Quechua for "owl".
I'm also fond of the Russian word "почемука". The word is the diminutive form of "почему" ("why") and is used to mean someone who asks an excessive amount of questions.
The German word "Handschuhschneeballwerfer", I believe literally means "one who wears gloves to throw snowballs" ("hand-shoe(glove)-snow-ball-thrower"), is used to mean "coward" and is quite cool too.
My favourite English word is "verisimilitude".
My user name is a translation of a shortened version of a quotation from Cicero's De Officiis.
Latin: non nobis solvm [noːn noːbiːs solʊ̃]
English: not for ourselves alone [ˈnɒt ˈfɔː aʊ̯əˈsɛlvz əˈləʊ̯n]
Kihā́mmic: pá mamūnám ontā́ bán [ˈpa mamuːˈnam ɒnˈtɑː ˈban]
Qafesona: но за сабых самах [no zɑ sɐˈbɨx ˈsamɐx]
This is also the national motto of the country central to my conworld, Kihāmát.
My main pages on the Conlang Wiki are:
I do have more pages and an index of most of them can be found here. The pages not shown above are mainly incomplete and/or sub-pages.
I currently have an offline project, Kunarek, a language based in southern Alaska.
Sadly, I currently only have on page on Contionary:
