This kind of consonant is primarily articulated at the back of the mouth, around where the molars are rather than behind them. Some examples are gap, scat, and sing. They can have secondary articulations such as the puff of air in cat, but not the darkness known as velarization, because they are already articulated in the part of the mouth responsible for that.
