Classification and Dialects[]

Weddish is an Indo-European language, spoken by a few thousand people living in Wales. There are no dialects today, so to find various forms of the language we must look back in time. Modern Weddish is spoken today, and it is said to have begun around 1600. Prior to that, Middle Weddish was spoken from 1066 onward, and Old Weddish is the ancient form of the language, whose origin is undocumented during the conquest of the British Isles.

Weddish almost defies classification, straddling the line between Germanic and Bythonic nearly perfectly. It has umlaut and a core vocabulary of Germanic (Frisian?) words, but many Welsh (and Hebrew) words in the more prestigious strata, along with Welsh (and Hebrew) grammatical constructs, such as mutation.
